William Hung
Fluke
William Hung may not have won even qualified for TV's American Idol, but the
unstoppable media publicity machine turned Hung into a celebrity in the face of no talent.
An awkward engineering student at UC Berkeley, Hung's performance of Ricky Martin's
"She Bangs" was so wonderfully awful that the notoriety led to a fully fledged career in
the "entertainment" field. It's safe to say that the name William Hung is more known
internationally than Sammo Hung, which is akin to a frog beating an elephant
in a wrestling match.
William Hung himself is from Hong Kong originally and speaks Cantonese, and the
market potential wasn't lost on former martial arts star Sharon Yeung Pan Pan, the
producer of Hung's first movie, Where is Mama's Boy? In the action-comedy set in
ancient China, Hung plays the son of 60's movie queen Nancy Sit. The film also stars 70's
actors Tien Niu, Tony Liu Yung, and nearly half the supporting cast of Shaolin Soccer.
