Canadian-bred actor Mark Cheng debuted in the 1985 romantic comedy Cupid One,
co-starring Sally Yeh. A high profile role in Tsui Hark's Peking Opera Blues (again
with Yeh) hinted at major leading man status, and by the late 80's Cheng added singing
to his expanding career.
In a variety of genre films, Mark worked with an array of Hong Kong talent including Lau Kar
Leung, Brigitte Lin, Lam Ching Ying, Andy Lau and Simon Yam. As he progressed and
his image hardened, he was cast in mostly action, thrillers and gangster movies such as The
Godfather's Daughter Mafia Blues. It became increasingly common to see Mark Cheng in
Category III films playing homicidal characters and rapists.
It was in the action realm that he met actress Yukari Oshima, to whom he was married
for four years. Maintaining a steady movie and TV output, Mark Cheng divides his time
by acting and operating his Flame Restaurant business with locations in Penang and
Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. He and his Malaysian wife have one baby daughter.
