                                   The venerable actor of film and television Kwan Hoi San has had an active career and 

                                        personal life. The hard-drinking / smoking actor has married a total of four times, 

                                    producing four sons and three daughters. He has been just as productive on screen.

 

                                 In the 1950's Kwan was a renowned Cantonese opera actor who traveled Asia performing

                                  for live audiences. Returning to his native Hong Kong in 1962 to appear on stage, Kwan

                                              began a film career and acted in dramas, martial arts and period pieces.   

                                Kwan Hoi Shan began his prolific television career in 1976, going on to appear in many of

                                                                     the all-time classic TV series for TVB.

 

                               Among Kwan Hoi San's more recognizable roles, he played the insufferable navy captain in 

                                  Project A with Jackie Chan, a martial con-artist in Kung Fu Warrior, a wealthy land 

                                 owner in the New Wave drama House of the Lute, and a proud cop in Benny Chan's

                                      Moment of Romance 2, where he duked it out with then rising star Aaron Kwok.

                                    

                                A tough old bird, Kwan Hoi San stayed busy as an actor well into his 70's before suffering

                                                a stroke in 2000, which marked the end of his commendable career. 

                                                                       In September 2006, he passed away.
