Dan Inosanto
(Danny Inosanto, Daniel Inosanto)
Martial Artist, Instructor
The legacy of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do was personally entrusted by Lee to his
chief student and friend Dan Inosanto, the world's leading authority on the art.
The American bred, Filipino sifu has run his own martial arts academy in Los Angeles
for years, where he also teaches Filipino martial arts and weaponry.
Inosanto's association with Bruce Lee led to his appearance in Lee's last film,
Game of Death. (The film, unfinished at the time of Lee's death in 1973, was
completed in 1978). The scene of Dan and Bruce duelling with nunchakus was
featured in the finale of the movie, as Lee ascended floors of a temple and fought
combatants at each level.
In The Chinese Stuntman (1980), Inosanto played the villain and fought the film's
director and star Ho Chung Tao (aka Bruce Li), and battled his very own student
John Ladalski in Arnis (Filipino stick fighting). Despite his convincing presence in
these two films, Inosanto never seriously pursued being an actor. In 1991, Dan
showed up in the movie Out For Justice, battling Steven Seagal in a pool hall.
The stick fight with Seagal was just a guest shot. However, his daughter
Diana Lee Inosanto is a Hollywood stuntwoman in film and television.
Dan Inosanto is now in his 60's and is still very active in the martial arts community,
continuing to preserve the teachings of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.
