Chiu Chi Ling
(Chu Chi Ling, Jiu Jiling)
Martial Artist, Actor
Chiu Chi Ling is recognizable by his muscular build and ever-present studded wristbands.
While he has acted in kung fu films since the 1970's, Chiu is actually a well known
Hung Gar stylist who has opened martial arts schools in different parts of the world,
and released instructional videos teaching classical Shaolin forms and weaponry. His
own father was a Hung Gar kung fu expert, who trained Chiu in the art as a young child.
In most of his movie appearances Chiu Chi Ling plays a kung fu master or sifu, though
more often than not these parts are as bad guys. In Winners and Sinners, he was the
stern kung fu dude who kept getting rapped in the head by John Shum, a classic
scene in one of the 1980's biggest HK action-comedies. Recently Chiu Chi Ling
returned
to the screen in Stephen Chow's Kung
Fu Hustle (2004).
